REPORTING SUSPECTED CHILD ABUSE
Futsal Club Toronto (FCT) is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all children involved in its programs. This policy aligns with Canada Soccer’s guidelines and expectations regarding the mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse to law enforcement and child protection authorities. It is the responsibility of all club staff, coaches, volunteers, parents, and players to uphold this policy and take action when necessary.
Mandatory Reporting Obligation
Any individual associated with Futsal Club Toronto, including coaches, staff, volunteers, and parents, who suspects or has reasonable grounds to believe that a child may be experiencing abuse (physical, emotional, sexual) or neglect must immediately report their concerns to law enforcement or the designated child protection agency.
It is not the responsibility of club personnel to investigate or determine the validity of the suspicion; all concerns must be reported to the appropriate authorities for assessment.
What to Report
Any disclosure from a child regarding abuse or inappropriate conduct.
Observations of physical injuries or behavioural signs that suggest abuse or neglect.
Any suspected misconduct by a coach, staff member, volunteer, parent, or player that may put a child’s safety at risk.
Any online or digital communication that is inappropriate or raises concerns about a child’s well-being.
Reporting Procedure
Immediate Action: Any suspected case of child abuse must be reported immediately to local law enforcement or child protection authorities.
Club Notification: After making the report, the individual must inform FCT’s designated Child Protection Officer for documentation and further action as required.
Confidentiality: All reports will be handled with the highest level of confidentiality, ensuring the protection of the child and the reporter.
Non-Retaliation: No individual shall face retaliation for making a good-faith report of suspected abuse.
Legal Compliance and Canada Soccer Alignment
This policy aligns with Canada Soccer’s Safe Sport framework, which mandates that all sports organizations prioritize child safety and comply with provincial and federal child protection laws.
FCT will provide ongoing training and education to all personnel on recognizing, preventing, and reporting child abuse.
Failure to report suspected abuse is a violation of this policy and may result in disciplinary action, including termination of roles within the club.
Futsal Club Toronto is dedicated to creating a safe environment for all children. By enforcing this mandatory reporting policy, we ensure that any suspicion of abuse is properly addressed, aligning with Canada Soccer’s commitment to child protection. All members of FCT must remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding the well-being of our young athletes.
