CODE OF CONDUCT FOR CHILD PROTECTION

Introduction Futsal Club Toronto (FCT) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all children participating in our programs. This Code of Conduct aligns with Canada Soccer’s regulations and standards for child protection, ensuring the safety and well-being of all young athletes.

Guiding Principles

  • The welfare of the child is the primary concern.

  • All children have the right to participate in a safe and respectful environment free from harm, bullying, discrimination, and abuse.

  • All FCT staff, coaches, volunteers, parents, and players share the responsibility to uphold these standards.

Responsibilities of Coaches, Staff, and Volunteers

  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and professional conduct at all times.

  • Avoid one-on-one interactions with a child in a private setting; ensure that another adult is always present.

  • Use positive reinforcement and encouragement rather than criticism or punishment.

  • Report any concerns of misconduct, abuse, or policy violations to the designated club child protection officer immediately.

  • Complete Canada Soccer-approved training on child protection and safe sport practices.

Player Rights and Responsibilities

  • Players have the right to participate in a safe, supportive, and respectful environment.

  • Players should respect their teammates, coaches, and officials.

  • Players must report any uncomfortable situations, misconduct, or abuse to a trusted adult or the club’s child protection officer.

Parental Responsibilities

  • Encourage and support children while respecting coaches, referees, and volunteers.

  • Ensure that children arrive and depart from training sessions safely.

  • Report any concerns regarding child safety and well-being to the club.

  • Educate children on appropriate behavior and encourage them to communicate openly about any issues.

Prohibited Behaviours

  • Physical, emotional, or sexual abuse of any kind.

  • Bullying, hazing, harassment, or discrimination.

  • Inappropriate physical contact or communication (including digital communication).

  • Neglecting supervision of children during club activities.

Reporting and Response Procedures

  • Any suspicion of child abuse or misconduct must be reported to the club’s child protection officer.

  • The club will follow Canada Soccer’s guidelines and legal obligations for investigating and addressing concerns.

  • All reports will be handled confidentially, with appropriate action taken to protect the child’s welfare.

  • If necessary, law enforcement and child protection agencies will be contacted.

Consequences for Violations

  • Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary actions, including suspension or expulsion from the club.

  • Severe breaches will be reported to appropriate authorities and governing bodies.

Commitment to Ongoing Education and Improvement

  • FCT will provide regular training for coaches, staff, and volunteers on child protection policies.

  • This Code of Conduct will be reviewed annually to ensure compliance with Canada Soccer and evolving best practices.
