Sergiu is a Romanian-Canadian coach and former professional player with a passion for developing technically proficient, intelligent, and complete footballers. His journey began at the grassroots level in Brampton, Ontario, where he played for Brampton East and Brampton Youth Soccer Club. His talent and drive led him to the Toronto FC Academy from the ages of 14 to 16.

After a setback in Grade 11, Sergiu reignited his playing career in Europe with a 6-month residency at Portuguese side SC Braga, followed by a standout year with SL Benfica U19, where he scored in the prestigious Zenit St. Petersburg International Tournament. His performances earned him a call-up to the Romanian U18 national team for matches against Denmark. He went on to complete his academy career at CD Nacional da Madeira before returning to Canada to study Criminology and Global Studies at York University.

While at university, he launched ROCA Football, a supplemental training program designed to elevate players’ technical foundations and on-field sharpness. After graduating, he returned to Europe to play semi-professionally in England’s Isthmian League while continuing to grow ROCA Football. During this time, he trained academy players from top English clubs including Arsenal, Tottenham, Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic, and Millwall, gaining unique insight into elite youth development across Europe.

In 2021, Sergiu signed his first professional contract with CS Tunari in Romania’s Liga III. He has since returned to Canada to expand his work in player development. In 2023, he co-founded Aspire Pro Training, a high-performance skills training program offering position-specific development for strikers, midfielders, defenders, and goalkeepers. Within its first year, Aspire Pro worked with over 700 athletes.

In 2024, he began connecting Canadian talent with professional opportunities in Portugal, taking players on trial with Belenenses and Colégio Atlântico — a growing affiliate of SL Benfica’s Academy in Seixal.

Sergiu’s coaching philosophy centers on building complete, versatile players equipped with strong technical ability, physical literacy, football intelligence, and tactical adaptability. He believes that when every individual in a squad is competent and game-ready, the collective can perform at its highest level.
